Job description
The Caretaker will be responsible for supporting the community of CFC and its various activities by ensuring the CFC buildings are safe, clean, tidy, organised, and well-maintained.
Responsibilities
- Undertake maintenance, including painting, repairs and the cleaning in belonging to CFC East.
- Carry out ongoing general maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
- Ensure rooms are set up as required for CFC and external events.
- Assist with delivering key events in CFC e.g. Christmas, Easter, Conferences, Weddings etc.
- Manage maintenance contracts for the buildings.
- Liaise with external contractors for jobs outside your remit.

- Respond to emergency call outs.
- Open/ lock up buildings as required.
- Manage the heating systems for the church buildings.
- Ensure good Health & Safety practices, processes, policies and procedures.
- Ensure lost property is being stored and managed appropriately.
- Participate in CFC staff team and meetings as appropriate.
- Manage resources, cleaning products, maintenance supplies and equipment wisely ensuring supplies are available as needed.
- Regular meeting with the Office Manager.
- Continually evaluate and improve practices.
- Take responsibility for own personal and professional development.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- An understanding of the main Health & Safety Regulations, including COSHH, risk assessment, and manual handling.
- Experience carrying out cleaning, repair and maintenance work, within the reasonable capacity of a normal handyperson
- Ability to undertake a range of caretaking and cleaning duties and maintenance and repair tasks eg woodwork, plumbing, painting and decorating skills within the reasonable capacity of a normal handyperson.
- Good attention to detail.
- Good organisational skills.
- Able to work to deadlines and to multitask, managing and prioritising your workload.
- Able to work as part of a team and on their own without supervision.
- Able to deal with any unexpected problems that arise and work effect.
- Good timekeeper and time management.
- Good interpersonal skills for positive dealings with staff and users.
- Able to work weekends.
