As one of the largest multispecialty surgical units it is fast paced, busy and thoroughly rewarding in an environment where teamwork is paramount. Specialities include ENT, Plastics, Cardiology, Renal, Liver, Neuro, Urology, and Vascular to name but a few, with simple day case procedures to those requiring overnight monitoring.

You will be given the opportunity to be competent in clinical skills such as cannulation, phlebotomy, ECG, CVAD’s and will be supported to gain a vast amount of knowledge in multispecialty surgeries. We will also support you to become confident in nurse led admission and discharges’ including prepack TTO’s, encouraging you to make independent decisions to excel in patient centred care and safe discharge planning.

Post-operative recovery is tailored to each speciality, and you will be supported to provide this to your group of patients which will involve drain care, wound management, removal of packs, removal of transradial bands, and cardiac monitoring and many more as we take on new procedures.

In addition the ward also takes medical and surgical patient transfers to help with the current hospital capacity and flow therefore allowing a mix of both surgical and medical experience and care at present.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will be required to work flexibly within the team in a dynamic and changeable environment which can evolve throughout the day with competing demands and post-operative requirements.

We are looking for individuals who are not afraid to advocate for our patients and to build up a rapport in a time where they can feel anxious and uncertain about their procedure.

We offer long shifts and short shifts, day and night shifts Monday-Saturday 24 hour care at present but this is to be expanded further in the future.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Experience

Essential

  • Previous/recent experience of working in an acute / NHS care setting (can include student/ trainee placements within the last 12 months)

  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post of on-going professional development/competence.
  • Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating others within a team/providing supervision to others
  • Can articulate willingness & demonstrate knowledge in relation to student supervision and assessment (This can include experience as student Nurse, Registered Nurse for newly qualified applicants)
  • Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context in relation to the role
  • Can demonstrate an understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity and how this related to the role
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.

Additional Criteria

  • Ability to read/write, speaks, receive and understand instruction in English.
  • Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
  • Ability to communicate articulately and motivate others
  • Competent in a range of clinical skills / practices relevant to the scope of practice required, demonstrates willingness to learn specific skills associated with the practice setting.
  • Evidence of or the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding and passion of the following.
  • Time management / Delegation of duties and orientation of new / temporary staff
  • Professional behaviour / relationship management
  • Clinical audit / learning from incidents
  • Care of a group of patients/shift management and clinical leadership relevant to the practise setting.
  • Displays genuine interest in the post applied for and can articulate this when questioned
  • Ability to communicate articulately with others

  • Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights / weekends unsocial hours, public holidays and on call where required.

Salary: £28407.00  to £34581.00 Yearly
