Why is Wednesday a Public Holiday?
Wednesday, 21st September, 2022 is recognized as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day because it marks the birthday of Ghana’s first president Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This day is a Statutory Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
Parliament passed the revised Public Holidays Act of 2018 in 2018 to update the Public Holidays Act of 2001.
The new law replaced three public holidays, including September 21, with the January 7 and August 4 holidays.
