Job Description

The Building Opportunities, Resilience, Infrastructure Development, Ecosystems, and Social Cohesion for Refugees and Host Communities (BORDER Project) is a 36-month project funded by the PATRIP Foundation which seeks to stabilise fragile border regions like the Upper West and Upper East Regions, aiming to prevent conflict and promote social cohesion. The project targets 2 refugee sites, one in Zini (Sissala West) and one in Terikum (Bawku West) Zini community hosts with more than 2000 Burkinabe displaced persons. The project will construct and rehabilitate solar powered water systems in 2 refugee sites and extend water supply and provide sanitation facilities eg Biofil and handwashing stations to households, schools and health care facilities and facilitate all-year gardening for vulnerable households.  It will also provide tailor-made training for local authorities, traditional and faith-based leaders, in various skills such as human rights, social cohesion, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • Master’s Degree in Rural Development, Development Studies, Project Management, Social sciences, international development or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of directly relevant professional experience in the area of local economic development /livelihood development, private sector engagement.
  • Experience working with private and public donors including foundations and corporates
  • Working experience with Institutions involved in sustainable development/ community empowerment/ natural resource management
  • Previous experience as a Programme Manager with strong expertise in social and economic infrastructure, HEA, Climate Change and Peace Building
  • Demonstrated management and supervisory skills
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills formally and informally to diverse audiences; desire and ability to mentor staff
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc

License, registration, or certification required to perform this position:
Effective in written and verbal communication in English and, preferably, French.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Must be fluent in the English and preferably French language
  • Demonstrated strengths in relationship management
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team
  • Able to work with a wide range of stakeholders including community-based organizations, local NGOs, local government and officials, donors, and colleagues
  • Ability to lead, manage, and motivate colleagues within the local office
  • Self-motivated and ability to work without close supervision
  • Exercises good judgment and sound decision making
  • Quick learner, agile, flexible, adaptable to different organizational cultures and operating environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, proven networking, team-building, organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in external engagement including donors, government
  • Experience in project and budget management
  • Strong partnering, conflict management, and consensus building skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), presentation and reporting skills
