A vacancy exists in our Safety, Health and Security Department for the position of Emergency Response Officer.

JOB PURPOSE

To assist in the development, review, and implementation of emergency response strategies to prevent and combat all emergency situations and circumstances on the Mine. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct basic training on evacuation plan, emergency exits, PPEs usage by employees, contractors and suppliers; 
  • Respond to incidents, including natural disasters and assess the situation to determine the type and level of intervention required;
  • Provide emergency response coverage for both day and night activities to ensure there are adequate resources to respond rapidly to emergency situations on the Mine; 
  • Identify potential hazards and follow-up for the necessary corrective/preventive actions and provide time-to-time debriefing for the Emergency Response Team (ERT);
  • Conduct monthly fire equipment inspections across the Mine;
  • Ensure all the fire hydrants are properly maintained and made available for emergency water supply in emergency situations;
  • Plan and gather all the necessary intelligence to prevent potential risks such as outbreak of infections or disease, technical failure of electricity networks, major gas leakages and severe weather conditions and follow-up on closeout strategies;
  • Liaise with all key stakeholders to eliminate potential ignition sources and initiate the necessary response actions;
  • Operate fire tender and related equipment to safeguard property during fire emergencies;
  • Organize training, including fire drills on the use of fire equipment, fire techniques, and related fire issues;
  • Organize periodic activities to maintain the acceptable level of physical fitness of the fire personnel;
  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Knowledge

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or the Engineering disciplines from a recognized institution.
  • National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) General Certificate or relevant certification from recognized body will be an added advantage;
  •  A Minerals Commission of Ghana Certificate of Competency in Occupational Health and Safety will be an added advantage.
  • Must have minimum of four (4) years’ post qualification experience in similar role in the mining or related industry;
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant national Health and Safety legislative requirements;
  • Sound understanding of safety management systems;
  • Sound knowledge and experience in risk management and loss prevention processes;
  • Basic First Aid Certification from an accredited institution and the ability to demonstrate the required
  • Strong computer literacy skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Must have a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License, minimum of five (5) years driving experience, and ability to drive in rough terrain;
  • Must demonstrate competency in all areas as described by any standard Safety Training system, with emphasis on:

                 a. Hazardous Materials response

                 b. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Open 

                 c. Mine Rescue and Firefighting

                 d. Confined Space Rescue

                 e. Water Rescue
