UMA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions: Flat Bed Drivers/Operators.

These are Obuasi based Fixed Term positions with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi.

ROLE PURPOSE

A flatbed driver shall be responsible for operating flatbed trucks to deliver underground materials and consumables from the surface warehouse/stores to various assigned designations underground. Successful applicants shall also assist in loading and offloading item and shall ensure pre-starts procedures are performed  before and after operations to avoid potential incidents on the mine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize forklift to load and unload pallets and product rolls in company’s yard and at delivery site.
  • Load truck from warehouse, operate forklift, organize stock pallets and unload trucks and make deliveries to multiple customers.
  • Obtain and maintain proper delivery authorization and pickup documentation.
  • Operating underground haul truck
  • Identifying and responding to workplace hazards.

  • Ensuring your underground tasks are completed according to set schedules.
  • Performing basic maintenance on operating equipment (pre-start checks, refueling, lube fill, washing down)
  • Performing related duties and activities as directed by the Underground Supervisor or as required.​

Desirable Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all EHS&T policies, procedures and instructions. This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises during work duties.
  •  Complies with all company policies and procedures that are displayed and amended from time to time
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.

  • Performs pre-start checks, SWICs and other mandatory requirements.
  • Ensuring inspections and maintenance is carried out on all equipment before use
  • Ensures that all tools are serviceable and safe
  • Must Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity
  •  Must carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and prepare the areas for drilling, charging or ground support in accordance with mine safety procedures
  • Maintains a high standard of housekeeping

Required Skills or Experience

Desired Skills & Experience

  • A minimum requirement of WASSCE or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years working experience as a Flatbed Driver preferably in the mining industry
  • Proven people management skills in a similar environment.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with and influence key stakeholders
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and have the ability to drive manual vehicle
  • Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to achieve
