Key Responsibilities
Support in Drilling Equipment Operations:
- Assist the Superintendent Driller in operating and maintaining drilling rigs and related equipment.
- Ensure that equipment is set up and used correctly, adhering to safety standards and project guidelines.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs on drilling equipment, reporting any major technical issues to the Superintendent Driller.
Supervision of Drilling Crew:
- Assist in the supervision and coordination of the drilling crew, ensuring that team members perform their tasks efficiently and safely.
- Provide guidance to the crew on proper drilling methods, borehole construction practices, and safety procedures.
- Ensure that all crew members adhere to standard operating procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Coordination with Superintendent Driller:
- Work closely with the Superintendent Driller to align daily drilling operations with project goals and timelines.
- Provide regular updates to the Superintendent Driller on crew performance, drilling progress, and any challenges encountered during operations.
- Assist in the execution of the drilling plan, ensuring smooth coordination between equipment, crew, and drilling activities.
Safety and Compliance:
- Assist in enforcing safety regulations on-site, ensuring that all operations comply with World Vision’s safety standards and local regulations.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox meetings, reinforcing the importance of a safe working environment.
- Identify potential hazards and take corrective actions to prevent accidents and injuries during drilling operations.
Support in Equipment Maintenance:
- Assist in the regular maintenance and inspection of drilling equipment, ensuring that machinery is in good working condition.
- Monitor the performance of drilling equipment and coordinate with the Superintendent Driller to schedule repairs and preventive maintenance as needed.
- Keep records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and any technical issues encountered during operations.
Borehole Development and Construction:
- Support the development of boreholes by assisting in the installation of casing and screen, and ensuring the correct use of drilling fluids.
- Ensure that all boreholes are developed according to specifications and meet the required standards for sustainable water yield.
Resource Management and Accountability:
- Assist in monitoring the use of materials, fuel, and other resources during drilling operations, ensuring accountability and minimizing waste.
- Report daily resource consumption to the Superintendent Driller, identifying any discrepancies or potential improvements for efficiency.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of daily drilling activities, including borehole logs, drilling depths, and crew performance.
- Assist in preparing detailed reports for the Superintendent Driller, providing insights into project progress and any challenges faced during operations.
Spiritual Leadership:
- Uphold World Vision’s Christian values and ethos in daily work, setting an example for the drilling crew.
- Participate in daily devotions and encourage the team to engage in spiritual activities, promoting a positive and values-driven work environment.
Other responsibilities:
- Assist in Hydrogeological investigation for siting new borehole
Required Skills or Experience
Professional Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in water well drilling, with some supervisory experience is preferred
- Extensive hands-on experience operating and maintaining drilling rigs and associated equipment.
- Strong leadership abilities with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
- High level of initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to work under pressure and in challenging field conditions.
Education, Training, License, Registration and Certification
- Diploma in Geological Science, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Certification in drilling operations is an advantage.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license (D and above) and be willing to travel extensively to field sites.
- Certifications in water well drilling and rig operation are preferred.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, borehole construction, and safety regulations.
- In-depth understanding of safety regulations and the ability to enforce safety protocols during drilling operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and drilling logs.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during drilling operations.
Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement:
- Office based with frequent travel to the field
- Travel: 20% Domestic/international travel is required.
- On call: 25%
