Here is the July 2022 Job Vacancy At African Underground Mining Services Limited. AUMS is seeking to employ highly capable, experienced and proficient Contracts Engineering Manager.

This is a Fixed Term position with a site based rotational role in Ghana on a 9/5 roster (or similar to be discussed with the selected candidate) and reporting directly to the Operations Manager with a functional report to the Commercial Manager-Africa and North America.

Prime Job Function:

The role of the Contracts Engineering Manager is to drive positive commercial outcomes and commercial assurance practices across two Perenti flagship projects (AUMS and UMA) in the Ahafo and Ashanti regions of Ghana, nurture and develop a strong client relationship, support site management (Operations Manager and Project Managers) to achieve project requirements and maximise profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain an intimate understanding of the Project, its operations, the Head Contract, sub-contracts and supply contracts.
  • Be the central cog between Operations, Project Controls / Engineering and Commercial to co-ordinate the collection of operational and delay events and to facilitate appropriate reporting to measure, build up and defend monthly progress claim (including providing substantiation to validate Claims as required)
  • Identify events, prepare and submit notices (with estimates) under the Contract including work alongside Project Controls, Estimating and Finance to prepare and submit subsequent formal time and cost claims

  • Respond to client notices and directions, including managing client expectations regarding delay events and general day to day site operations
  • Review and further standardise processes and/or develop systems and processes where required to support the administration of the Contract, Commercial Outcomes and provide clarity to various site stakeholders to exceed project KPIs
  • Collaborate with the Operations and Project team to identify efficiencies, productivity gains and savings opportunities to improve the performance and profitability of the project
  • Develop and grow the commercial/contracts engineering function at a site level by coaching and supporting stakeholders regarding the value of process driven outcomes

  • Identify and pursue supply chain savings, increase security of supply through strategic sourcing and category management without local sourcing regulations and objectives.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism in direction of the works and in personal conduct.

Desired Skills & Qualification

  • A minimum of BSc in Mining or related Engineering Qualification with a minimum of five years of site-based experience in a mining environment
  • Strong technical site based Commercial/Project Controls, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or Engineering experience (underground experience preferred) on a similar role

  • Demonstrated understanding of the underground mining cycle and associated challenges
  • Ghanaian nationality preferred Good supervisory, analytical, and organisational skills
  • Must be a good and effective communicator
  • Follow and encourage followership of AUMS protocols, standards and policies to ensure all EHS&T operational and compliance requirements are met.
