About YEA
The National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), which would later become the Youth Employment Agency, was established in 2005 with the goal of combating the ever-increasing issue of youth unemployment, which was seen as a potential threat to national security at the time.
In October of 2006, it was formally inaugurated, but it did not have any legal backing and operated under the auspices of the Office of the President.
The government made the decision to rebrand and reposition the Agency as a Public Service Organization in order to provide better assistance to the growing number of young people who are without jobs.
The New York Employment Program (NYEP) was succeeded by the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA), which began operations in October 2012.
