Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) is a well-established, African-based, research centre and one of three field research centres of the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service an agency of the Ministry of Health. The work of KHRC has implications for health policy and practice throughout Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world. KHRC is situated in the middle part of Ghana and offers research and training services nationally and internationally and its staffs are multidisciplinary.

Job Description

Brief Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing research projects. Plans and implements research projects including coordinating the development of project scope, goals, work plans, timelines, strategies and assessing progress towards project objectives. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Project management of awarded projects and contracts 
  • Provide day-to-day high-level support to the PI, assisting in the implementation of robust programme management processes and protocols, in line with best practice.
  • Deliver project events, such as research collaboration meetings, road-mapping workshops and seminars, and coordinate appropriate publicity, ensuring meeting minutes are taken and distributed.
  • Monitor project activity, tracking budgets, prepare reports and work with researchers, and sponsors on updates, necessary adjustments and periodic reporting
  • Routinely review risks, issues and progress, taking actions as necessary to ensure minimum impact on programme deadlines
  • Maintain up-to-date records that enable effective monitoring, control and evaluation of assigned programme activities
  • Coordinate the delivery of strong project governance, through supporting the management of advisory board meetings, as well as required scientific and other stakeholder workshops and summits, as needs arise
  • Work with and resolve issues for a diverse research community including sponsors and other stakeholders
  • Communicate through team meetings and formal presentations in order to effectively convey to diverse audience’s program information, including project updates and reports. 
  • Proposal development:  work with various researchers to identify appropriate funding opportunities and help develop high-quality proposals.
  • Search for funding opportunities and facilitate the pre-award process.
  • Facilitate training for various need-based research trainings. 
  • Occasional travel for attendance at meetings, conferences and/or training sessions.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualification

  • MSc Project Management. 

Experience

  • 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in proposal development, including adherence to sponsor guidelines and solicitation requirements
  • Experience in building and monitoring budgets
  • Experience in sponsored project administration
  • Managing multi-disciplinary research projects, involving external and internal partners
  • Knowledge of and experience in technical writing and presentation development.
  • Experience with research funding agencies
  • Experience in arranging events and meetings
  • Knowledge of data management and analysis tools
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, national and institutional policies, regulations, guidelines, practices and procedures on research grants.
  • Knowledge of software applications including project management tools.

Skills 

  • Exceptional project management and organisational skills combined with a strong attention to detail. 
  • Good analytical skills demonstrated by a structured and methodical approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with a wide range of people and audiences at all levels. 
  • Diplomatic, able to negotiate and apply judgement in complex areas. 
  • Effective decision-making. 
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as proven team building and motivational skills
  • Time management, prioritization and calmness under pressure.
