About The Youth Employment Agency

The Youth Employment Agency started out as the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in 2005. This was done to deal with the growing problem of youth unemployment, which was seen as a possible threat to national security at the time. It was made official in October 2006, and it was run by the Office of the President without any legal backing.

To better help the many young people who are out of work, the government decided to rename and reposition the Agency as a Public Service Organisation. Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA), which took the place of NYEP in October 2012, was born and opened its doors.

Even
though the
Agency was moved into the Public Service, it still didn’t have the legal backing it needed to do its job. After consulting with the right people, management sent a draft bill to Parliament through the Executive.

The
Youth Employment Agency Bill (Youth Employment Agency Act 2015, Act 887) was signed into law by the President in March 2015. It was passed into law in February 2015.

The Youth Employment Agency Regulations 2016, L.I. 2231, were then passed into law in 2016, published in February 2016, and went into effect in May 2016.
