EduSpots, a UK and Ghanaian organization, connects, trains, and equips volunteer community educators to offer transformative literacy and STEM opportunities in ‘Spots’ that focus on female empowerment and environmental action. We are creating community-based changemakers.
Since 2016, we have worked with over 250 local volunteers to help 50 communities develop and operate community-led and owned education spaces called ‘Spots’ and move to our ‘Dream Spot Model’. A global community-led education paradigm with network interaction is being developed.
Our 16-person Ghanaian team works part-time and remotely to create collaborative learning opportunities for over 15,000 students of all ages through our Ignite and Community Leadership in Development (CLEd) Programmes, which include leadership training for our EduLit, EduSTEM, EduKidz, and Ignite Girls clubs and locally designed education projects. About this role
We need a proactive gender equality advocate. The candidate will motivate our volunteer Catalysts through online training and tools and have the motivation, inventiveness, and online working skills to make this program successful.
The Ignite Programme launched Ignite Girls Clubs at five regional conferences in 2023. The program was a success, with over 100 volunteers actively participating and creating their own to promote the change through 23 ‘Spots’ and 600 learners. Ignite Girls became ‘Ignite Equity’ in 2024 after community calls to include boys in campaigning for girls’ rights and addressing boys’ gender-specific needs in Junior High.
Local 50+ community volunteers lead 20-30 Junior High 2 boys and girls Ignite Equity Clubs. Gender stereotypes, communication, menstrual hygiene, social entrepreneurship, sexual harassment, careers, and other community-selected subjects will be covered monthly.

The Ignite Equity Coordinator will provide monthly content and training materials for this program and work with the Education and Research Manager to build a strong remote network of support by connecting volunteers via WhatsApp and Zoom. You will coordinate all program features, including minor grants and the Ignite Equity Peer Mentor, to help our local volunteers.
Our ‘Keeping Spots Safe’ curriculum of engagement, which ties to the Ignite Equity program, will also be overseen in this role. You will work with the Education and Research Manager and Head of Programmes to provide frequent training content to increase Catalyst and learner involvement in child rights and safety and ensure Spots are safe learning places.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Support the creation and ongoing review of a curriculum for our Ignite Equity groups.
- Create content to help the clubs, such as a monthly action plan, mentoring sessions, and any supporting information.
- Lead a monthly Zoom session for Ignite Equity volunteers, providing training advice and allowing them to share their ideas and cooperate.
- Lead all communication with Ignite Equity volunteers, including WhatsApp, phone calls, and email as required.
- Track participation in our Ignite Equity Programme and handle all program monitoring and assessment.
- Work with the Finance Manager and the Head of Operations to ensure that grants for
- Ignite Equity’s operations are distributed and reported on properly.
- Manage the Peer Mentor (Ignite Equity)’s performance in their position.
- Create content on ‘Keeping Spots Safe’ to engage Catalysts regularly via the Spot Lead feed.
- Work with the Head of Communications to ensure that the Ignite Equity programme’s activities and impact are conveyed to a wider audience.
- Supporting the Ignite Programme’s impact reporting and evaluation processes.

- Ensure that all administrative activities related to the function are completed accurately.
- To always comply with the organization’s policies, procedures, and staff performance expectations as outlined in the Staff and Volunteers Handbook.
- Any other duties that may be legitimately necessary for the function.
Required Skill or Experience
Knowledge & Experience
- An understanding of the Ghanaian education system gained via either direct classroom experience or three years of work on community-based education projects.
- Experience and understanding of empowerment work for girls and boys in Ghana.
- An understanding of and sympathetic exploration and management of challenges confronting girls (and boys) in Spot communities, including menstrual hygiene, sexual relationships, communication, entrepreneurship, and career development.
- A grasp of the tactics used to keep spaces and programmes safe.
- Experience in programme development, material creation, and community building in an online education setting.
- Experience with basic/moderate design work utilizing Canva or a comparable tool.
- Strong IT skills and expertise with the Microsoft Office Suite.

- A real desire to empower girls and boys in Ghana and elsewhere, as well as to engage in broader protection and inclusion efforts.
- Proactive, dynamic, and capable of moving things forward autonomously while adhering to the agreed-upon approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, as well as a keen attention to detail.
- The capacity to create high-quality design work related to the program utilizing Canva.
- The capacity to engage and create relationships with community-based volunteers via remote working tactics such as WhatsApp, Zoom meetings, and phone calls.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, ambitious company with a great ability to react to feedback and learn quickly.
- Strong interpersonal skills; sympathetic and adaptable.
- Strongly connected with our organization’s principles and culture, with a real enthusiasm for educational justice and community-driven development.
Highly desirable
- A degree in a relevant discipline, such as education, social sciences, health, gender studies, or equivalent.
- Experience establishing empowerment programs for girls and boys, as well as directing or supporting safeguarding policies.
- Experience with mentorship programmes.
