Job Description

The position is located on-site at HPW Fresh and Dry Ltd in Adeiso, E/R, and reports to the Deputy HR/Health & Safety Manager.

Job Purpose

The overall goal of this position is to guarantee that the organization follows all health and safety requirements and provides a safe working environment for workers, visitors, and contractors.

Job Duties:

Health and Safety

  • When performing duties, strictly adhere to the company’s health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist the health and safety manager with all internal and external audits.
  • Coordinate the efforts of the Fire Warden Team, First Aid Team, and Health and Safety Committee.
  • Lead the Health and Safety and Fire Warden Teams through quarterly fire exercises as outlined in the emergency response plan.
  • Assist in the design, coordination, and implementation of all health and safety training programs.
  • Lead the Health and Safety Team through risk assessments.
  • Coordinate and report on environmental monitoring, including noise, ventilation, and temperature.
  • Inspect the workplace, including any article, substance, plant, machinery, or health and safety equipment, at regular intervals as agreed upon with management.
  • Monitor and oversee the proper usage of PPE in the workplace.
  • Conduct regular incident/accident investigations and trend analyses from the database, and provide findings.
  • Lead incident investigations and inspections in off-site areas, such as farms.
  • Conduct regular health and safety surveys and implement ideas for continual improvement.
  • Coordinate the actions of external health providers and ensure they are meeting the conditions of their contracts.
  • Track all long-term illness personnel under HPW’s care and guarantee a timely and safe return to work.
  • Coordinate correct documentation of employee health data as needed.
  • Maintain sick bays, ensuring that they are always in good shape and are not utilized inappropriately by anyone.
  • Investigate employee complaints about health and safety.
  • Assess the efficacy of health and safety measures.

First Aid

  • Provide first assistance to all members of the organization as needed.
  • Document, preserve, and keep records of the first aid provided.
  • Report any problems with the First Aid service to the Health & Safety Manager.
  • If necessary, make arrangements for the prompt and proper referral of casualties.

General

  • Communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with management, the H&S team, and all workers.
  • Perform all other H&S duties as reasonably requested.
  • Departmental Relations: Maintains communication with department heads and workers.
  • Physical requirements Prolonged durations of walking for safety checks or sitting to use the computer.
  • Equipment/Tools to be Used Computers and Other Safety Measurement Tools

Required Skill or Experience

EDUCATION AND COMPETITIONS

  • Education, Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: NEBOSH IGC or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant job experience, preferably in a manufacturing context.
  • Knowledge of BS ISO 45001: 2018
  • Adaptability and the capacity to function in a multicultural context
  • Interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Ability to train, develop, and motivate the team.
  • Flexible, methodical, and highly motivated, this team player can learn and assimilate new knowledge while maintaining confidentiality.
