Job Description

  • Location: Namdini Site (Bolga)
  • Section/ Unit: Safety
  • Department: Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
  • Job reports to: Health, Safety and Environment Manager
  • Direct Reports: Health and Safety Advisors

Job Purpose

The role will provide support to the CNML Operations in optimizing safety controls through design,
implementation, evaluation, coordination and management of the safety control systems.Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide advice to department managers about hazard Identification, risk management, safety rules & regulation, trends & statistics and legal compliance.
  • Guide the implementation and coordination of safety programmes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and CNML policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to Heads of Department on what should be done within the current Safety Management system to address trends identified.
  • Manage, review and audit the accident/incident reporting and investigation processes to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are appropriate to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish safety leadership in the course of on-site employee engagements and actively engage in Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) and infield observation programme.
  • Conduct relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating strong safety leadership.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Integrated Management System
  • Monitor lag indicators after external audits (regulatory, management system audits etc.) and ensure gaps are closed prior to follow-up.
  • Implement the Malaria/Infectious disease Control Programme within the Cardinal Namdini controlled zone.
  • Supervise site-wide contractor health and safety performance review meetings on regular  basis.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • Bachelors’ degree in a Science and/or Health, Engineering, Safety discipline or relevant job experience.
  • NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Health and Safety Superintendent Certificate of Competence from Minerals Commission.
OTHER RECENT VACANCIES:

Experience

  • A minimum of 5-8 years’ experience working within a Health and Safety field in an extractive industry for a large sized organization of which a minimum of
  • 3 years should be in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
  • Health and Safety experience in a construction environment is essential.
  • Prior event investigation experience is essential.
Knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge in Health and Safety management systems (OSHAS 18001
  • or ISO 45001)
  • Deep knowledge of relevant local Health and Safety legislative requirements.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of risk management.
  • Additional auditing qualification is desirable.

Skills

  • Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery within Safety improvement projects.
  • Consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
