Position: Field Officer

Location: Northern Region

Reporting to: Regional Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

ECOM is seeking self-motivated field officers who are fluent in both English and local languages for some districts in the Northern Region. The Field officers will be responsible for the successful delivery of the SMS program activities in the designated district.

This role is an entry point into ECOM Ghana and after two years, Field Officers (SMS) would have an opportunity to grow into a more generalized role. This role will include the procurement of soya beans and the implementation of SMS Programmes.

The Field Officer will also participate in the programme program and new initiative development of SMS Ghana and represent SMS in the operational district. S/he will be accountable to the Regional Manager (Operations) and will have close contact with the Field Coordinator in the operational area.

Successful candidates will be assigned to a district where SMS activities are ongoing and may be required to occasionally travel out of the operational area for other assigned duties.

The Field Officers (FO) will:

Be responsible for the development of district’s annual work plans.
Directly supervise all farmer specialized programs (VSLA, Additional Livelihood etc.) in the districts.
Be responsible for Verification/Certification annual Audit in the district.
Coordinate all training activities for producers.
Manage a team of Field Trainers (FT) in the district.
Responsible for assisting and assessing FTs in the district.
Undertake any other activities that will be assigned in line with the FO scope of work.

Partnership Responsibilities

Supporting Farm Supervisors on their core responsibilities.
Work closely with or collaborate with district MoFA technical officers and Research Institutions within the region/district.
Maintain good relationship with district Franchise Holders and other key stake holders.

Administrative Responsibilities

Prepare weekly reports.
Responsible for the care and security of assigned company assets.

EDUCATION

Degree/ Diploma in one of the following fields Agriculture, Business, Economics, Development.
Certificate in Agriculture.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

Proficiency in MS Office package (especially Excel).
Good project and time management skills.
Strong analytical, organizational and leadership skills.
Good communication skills and prepared to represent SMS at the district level.

PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
Experience of working in rural development.
Understanding of smallholder farmer livelihoods.
Ability to work independently and without supervision.
Ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners.
Self-starter, dynamic and with flare for innovations.
Fluent in English and local language.
Willing to work in rural and remote parts of Ghana.
Practical experience in managing (donor-funded) programmes in the developing country context, with evidence of creating pragmatic solutions to problems as they arise.
