The management of the National Service Scheme, NSS, has suspended their Ashanti Regional Director, Mr Alex Opoku Mensah, for abusing a nurse.
This suspension, as the NSS management stated, is with immediate effect.
The announcement of the suspension was made yesterday at an emergency meeting the management of the scheme held with Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah.
The management decision is to allow further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, the NSS management has formed a committee comprised of officials from the NSS, the Public Services Commission, and the Ministry of Education to look into the situation and report back to them within a month.
In light of this, Mr Opoku Mensah is scheduled to testify before the committee on the following Monday, December 5, 2022.

The NSS for the Ashanti region has been on everyone’s lips since an audio recording of him aggressively harassing a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital went viral.

On the other hand, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding the director’s dismissal or the start of a strike.
In a statement, Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the GRNMA Philemon Adu Brempong gave the government 72 hours to remove the appointee or face industrial action.
It turns out that the management of NSS has not taken action and has declared their intention to investigate the NSS Regional Director for the Ashanti Region following the suspension.
