Inspire Action’s vision is a world where children, youths and the underprivileged have access to acceptable levels of education, water, hygiene and sanitation, healthcare, shelter and free of hunger in a bid to actively contribute to all levels of society. Job Description

  • Job Description: Communications Assistant – Paid Intern
  • Duty Station: Accra, Ghana (Secretariat)
  • Full-Time Position: 40 Hours per Week
  • Parent Position: Senior Partnerships and Communications Expert

This position is an opportunity for actively enrolled students in or completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or similar educational program in Communication, Journalism, Information Studies, Media Studies, Social Science, International development or any related field; or graduates with a maximum professional experience of one year to acquire the necessary skills enabling them to build a base for their future professional careers. The duration of this internship shall be three (03) months renewable once, renewal is subject to the intern’s performance and funding availability. A monthly stipend shall be provided to the incumbent intern to support their livelihood. This position carries no expectation to retain the selected intern in a permanent position within the organization. ONLY citizens of the Republic of Ghana shall be considered.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be an excellent team player, possess the required interpersonal skills and will be able to maintain flexibility in their role. The key responsibilities are, though not limited to:

Partnerships:

  • Scan partnerships opportunities (facilitate assessments of client needs, Inspire Action’s comparative advantages, and partner survey analysis, among others);
  • Monitor and evaluate humanitarian and development trends and needs to identify areas of collaboration within Inspire Action’s mandate and existing capacity.
  • Ensure completion of periodic country-related updates such as Country Engagement Opportunity Updates, Newsletters, Monday boards, and SharePoint;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Communications:

  • Support all aspects of communication including research and vetting, production and management, presentation and promotion, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Support the implementation of deliverables of corporate communications strategies, including the organization and management of initiatives and events and the production and revision of digital and traditional products;
  • Conduct research and brainstorm opportunities related to internal communications and branding.
  • Write, edit, and upload text and multimedia content, including feature articles and interviews, to online communication platforms;
  • Attend meetings and conduct interviews for the production of internal-facing news articles.

  • Support the Communications team with the organization of events related to corporate communications strategies and programs;
  • Support the marketing and promotion of corporate branding and communications strategies and related deliverables.

Required Skills or Experience

Required:

  • Active enrolment in or completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or similar educational program in Communication, Journalism, Information Studies, Media Studies, Social Science, International development or any related field;
  • Interest in the field of development especially related to communication and branding.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English;
  • Strong communication skills: excellent listening skills and empathy, ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and other related software;
  • Demonstrable experience in media communications including social media;
  • Prior experience in the social development sector including non-government organizations, government development agencies, and humanitarian agencies, either via assignments or other internships, is an asset;
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds;
  • Self-starter who is able to identify and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Integrity: exercising the appropriate discretion when working with confidential and sensitive matters and information.

  • Experience in website content management;
  • Graphic design skills;
  • Photography and basic video-making skills;
  • Experience working with a diverse and global team.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Have an increased understanding of the humanitarian sector and systems;
  • Have learned the humanitarian technical language and working procedures;
  • Understand Inspire Action’s mandate and policies;

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent command of the English language is required;
  • Working knowledge of the French language is desired but not an eliminatory criteria.
