Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide technical support to mine projects through effective mine planning, contract management, and cost improvement initiatives.

Primary Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Ensures that operations comply with the companies policy and statutory regulations on health, safety and environment.
  • Delivers on time practical mine designs, plans and schedules to optimize the extraction of ore and development of ore deposits.

  • Analyzes and interprets mine plans to ensure alignment with operational objectives.
  • Monitors costs related to services provided by contractors and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Supports delivery of mining and cost improvement studies and projects with accurate mining engineering inputs and analysis including designs, mine plans and financials. This includes assisting in ore reserve estimation process.
  • Prepares short term and medium term rolling forecast schedules aligned with annual budget and prepare monthly cost reviews
  • Assists in Life of Mine and annual budget preparation to deliver the required production in a cost-effective manner in line with corporate plans.
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and technical support to graduate mining engineers and related persons.

  • Perform end of month reconciliation for works executed by contractors for payment. Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience: Senior Mine Planning Engineer

Minimum qualification (s)
  • B.Sc in Mining Engineering
  • Mine Foreman Certificate of competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission
Experience (Minimum)
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in a similar role
  • Valid driving license Class B or above
Knowledge (In-depth)
  • Good working knowledge and experience in mine planning and budgeting.
  • Must have thorough understanding of mining operations, as well as a general understanding of milling operations and mine maintenance.
  • Must be able to perform financial modelling and analysis in a mining environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of all phases of mining operations and proficiency in spreadsheet based cash flow analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and conduct risk assessments.
  • Track record of implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Proficient with mine planning software systems for pit optimization and designs, preferably Surpac, DataMine, MineSched, Whittle, NPVS, TALPAC knowledge of MS Office suites.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2012 L.I. 2182, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Understanding of Mining Health & Safety Procedures.
