CDG10 is looking to appoint a talented, dynamic and dedicated Service Manager to our team within Neurosurgery. We and our clinical teams have ambitious goals for the coming years both to recover and enhance our core service delivery, and to continue to grow our specialist services both regionally and nationally.
The Service Manager is responsible for promoting the vision and values of University Hospitals Birmingham, leading by example and ensuring that they demonstrate those values in their leadership behaviours and how we support our teams and deliver our services. The Service Manager is responsible for the operational delivery of the Neurosurgery specialty’s Strategy within their area of responsibility.
The Service Manager will be responsible with the Operational Manager for all aspects of operational performance within the Neurosurgery Department whilst maintaining quality standards, and for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of good governance arrangements within their team.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
The Neurosurgery Service Manager will be able to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with patients and colleagues, whilst working under pressure. They will be adept at analysing and solving problems with appropriate escalation as required. They will have strong operational and organisational skills and experience and will be confident in upholding the Trust values in ensuring:
- That the department strives to make the best use of available resources including staffing, outpatient and theatre facilities.
- That staff and patients are treated with kindness, compassion and respect at all times.
- That neurosurgery adheres to key performance standards such as referral to treatment and cancer performance targets.
- That the neurosurgery Patient Targeting List is monitored and managed on a daily basis.
- That there are well described patient pathways from referral to discharge.
- That staff are well trained and follow these pathways, ensuring an equitable and excellent patient experience.

Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 1 years operational management experience in the NHS
- Experience of working within a NHS environment working with clinicians and other health care professionals at all levels of the organisation
- HR — day to day supervision/management of staff and delivers training on a range of subjects.
