AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Shiftboss is a regulatory-mandated role that leads the Quality Assurance and Control and ensure compliance to the mining and other related legislation. Risk Manage all underground mining ore extraction activities to the required standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Accountable for team’s environmental obligations and performances.
- Conduct formal meetings with team and report any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
- Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
- Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.

- Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings.
- Establish the necessary production processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine
- Establish Quality Control process for collecting and managing required data and to monitor performance.
- Develop schedule and progress tracking process
- Maintain good working knowledge of the following relevant provision applicable to the mine
- Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012(L.I 282)
- Mineral and Mining (Explosives) Regulations 2012(L.I 2177)
- Deliver the work of the production function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs
- Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority.
- Rigorously drive implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within production team.
- Establish and maintain consistent team performance and relationships within the function and cross-functionally within the department.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification
- BSc / Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Underground Shiftboss Certificate of Competency or equivalent
Experience
- A minimum of Two (2) to Five (5) years’ operational experience within an underground mining environment of which at least two (2) years is at supervisory level;
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of fundamental underground development and production methods.

Technical/Other Competencies
- Ability to engage with all different disciplines throughout various levels of the workforce including management
- Excellent negotiation and consultation skills
- Mining Development and Production Processes & Practices – Advanced Application
- Capable of managing and supervising small teams.
- Able to provide performance assessments on others to their direct manager.
- Competent in creating a design of mining area or block.
- Competent in developing an understanding of costs and revenue associated with a design to drive business outcomes.
- Understanding of all ancillary detail of a plan.
Legal Competencies
- Underground Shiftboss’ s Certificate of Competency or equivalent, as required by the Minerals Commission (Chief Inspector of Mines)
