70 Youth-led businesses benefit from YouStart.
According to Ken Ofori Atta, minister of finance, the YouStart initiative, which launched this year, has been trialled effectively with 70 beneficiaries and a total of GH1.98 million distributed thus far.
According to him, the funds were given to SMEs in the poultry, agroprocessing, ICT, textiles, and food processing industries that were led by young people (under the age of 40).
Speaking at the presentation of the 2023 budget statement, Mr. Ofori Atta said that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the program’s commercial component with the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) and 11 other commercial banks.
“Mr Speaker, a launch for the District Entrepreneurship Programme (DEP) component of the programme was held on 14th November, 2022 and it is expected that the launch of the Commercial component of the Programme will occur by the end of 2022 to enable qualified beneficiaries access support,” he stated.
One District One Factory (1D1F)
The One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) Initiative continued to make outstanding progress in 2022, according to the finance minister.
He stated that a total of 296 1D1F projects were now in various phases of implementation, with 126 of them being operational, 143 of them being under construction, and 27 of them being pipeline projects.
He said that in 2023, the government would further up its technical support, financial facilitation, and infrastructural access for both new and current manufacturing businesses.
