Agric Ministry to Sell Foodstuff at Cheaper Prices in Accra.
To better serve the people of Accra, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture intends to start selling food inside its facilities.
To avoid item-price inflation, the food will be delivered directly from the farm gate.
The Sector Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, said “the ministry itself is going to take its own initiative” when speaking to farmers in Sefwi Wiaso, in the Western North Region.

The minister declared, “We are going to hook up with the farm gate so that we can make all the arrangements to make sure that we put up kiosks on our compounds at the ministry, exclusively for food from here [Sefwi Wiaso], and we are going to give it a lot of publicity.”

Inflation rates for food products were 37.8 percent in September, compared to 43.6 percent for transportation.
The rate of inflation for cereals and cereal products made from crops like maize was 46%.
Because of the rate of food inflation, the minister has in the past referred to traders as greedy.
According to Dr. Afriyie Akoto, overcharging by traders was one factor contributing to inflation, rather than a lack of food.
