The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is the oldest and most popular quiz competition contested annually by Senior High Schools in Ghana since 1994.
The first NSMQ had 32 senior high schools from all throughout Ghana. The Northern Sector and Southern Sector, each with 16 schools, were created from these 32 senior high schools. The national championship was held in Accra with the winners from both sectors.

1. The Most Successful School In The NSMQ Competition
Presec, Legon has appeared in ten finals(This year’s final makes it their 11th appearance at the final.), winning six of them, and becoming first runner-up four times. On Thursday, October 8, 2020, the PRESEC boys won a record-expanding sixth NSMQ trophy. The NSMQ was also won by PRESEC in 1995, 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2009. Their finals winning percentage is 60%.

1. Achimota School is the only coeducational school to have won the competition.

4. The most outstanding Student ever during the 3 school competition. ~Sarfo Wonder, Prempeh College (2017).

5. The first School to win NSMQ outside UG Campus.~National Theatre, Prempeh College (2017)
6. Only two schools—Presec Legon (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) and Adisadel College ( 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)—have advanced to four consecutive finals.
7. The only school in the Western area to win the championship is Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS).
8. Only five regions have won the NSMQ Trophy: Greater Accra Region, Ashanti, Central Region, Eastern And Western Region

9. Kumasi Anglican Senior High School(KASS) is the only school apart from Prempeh College and Opoku Ware School from the Ashanti Region to make it to the NSMQ Final.( 2007 )
10. Wesley Girls’ High School and Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School are the only two all-girls schools to make it to the NSMQ Final in 1999 and 2013, respectively.
