List of Important Offices in KNUST You Should Know

1. Office of the Dean of Students

All students’ welfare and discipline fall under the purview of the Dean of Students, and the Dean of Students gives significance to the Senior Members’ function as acting in loco parentis for students.

Since its founding in 1998, the Office of the Dean of Students has continued to offer students the welfare support services they require during their time at the university to succeed both academically and personally.

The office’s staff works to help students develop into responsible members of the university community through intentional programmes. On campus, the office is located at the Commercial Area.

2. KNUST Library – Prempeh II Library

The University Library predates the institution of higher learning. When Achimota College was moved to Kumasi in 1952 to serve as the foundation of the newly founded Kumasi College of Science and Technology, it began with 4,000 volumes from the Teacher Training Department in prefabricated structures.

The University Library relocated to the area next to the Great Hall in April 1961. At the moment, the Library has a stock of over 214,692 volumes and a journal holding of over 3,850 titles, of which 340 are current and 160 are on subscription. It can accommodate 1,420 people.

3. The University Hospital (Tech Hospital)

University Health Services division includes the University Hospital. The hospital is a 24-hour general hospital built and run by the KNUST, which is overseen by the Director of University Health Services. It is situated alongside the Kumasi-Accra Highway in the northeastern area of the KNUST campus.

The hospital has 100 beds and cots, an outpatient department (OPD), four wards, an operating room, a laboratory, X-rays, maternity and maternal and child health facilities, a dispensary, a medical records unit, a dentistry clinic, an eye clinic.

4. International Programmes Office (IPO)

The International Programs Office was established with the corporate vision of advancing science and technology for sustainable development in Africa and the rest of the globe.

International Programs Office’s mission is to serve as a bridge between the local community and the outside world by offering a setting for science and technology-related teaching, research, and entrepreneurship training for the industry and the socioeconomic development of Ghana, Africa, and the rest of the world.

IPO serves the community, is accessible to everyone, and is well-positioned to draw academics, businesspeople, and industrialists from around Africa and the globe.
