Majority leader ushers birthday with E-Levy Cake.
While Dr. Osei Kwame Despite celebrated his 60th birthday with Bugatti Chiron, the majority leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu opted for an E-Levy-designed cake to commemorate his 65th birthday.
The majority leader was joined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, other NPP leaders, as well as family and friends, during the birthday celebration.
At the 65th birthday of the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in Kumasi, the E-Levy cake was cut to usher in the celebration.
Social media has been inundated with images and videos from Minister and MP Osei Kyei-Mensah-party Bonsu’s on February 3 in Kumasi.
The gigantic all-green, six-part cake that spelled out the words “E-Levy” was what really drew the eye of many social media users.
The event happens at a time when the National Democratic Congress is spearheading the charge against the levy and has even scheduled a “Yentua Demonstration” to protest it. A large number of Ghanaians have also expressed opposition to the thorny and controversial Transaction Levy (E-Levy).
According to the Economic Fighters League, the majority leader’s actions are a symbolic hint that E-levy earnings will be “chopped” by government officials.
The group called the behavior a “perfect illustration of growing old without sense” on their Facebook page.
“An MP entering retirement age has just told us that he is going to take a cut of the national cake made from our own modest earnings,” Ernesto Yeboah, the group’s leader, continued.
According to social media reports, NDC lawmakers gifted the cake to the majority leader.
Nonetheless, claims that the controversial cake was presented by the NDC minority MPs have been debunked.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, has probed the motivation behind the dissemination of such information.
I cite what he wrote on his Twitter timeline.
“Whoever conceived the outlandish idea to blame NDC MPs for the Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu E-Levy cake must definitely be the same guy behind the novel tollbooths for washrooms concept.”
We know you have the men but please have a scintilla of respect for Ghanaians.”
