About the Role
Our Senior Support Workers play a crucial role in fostering independence for adults aged 18+ through our well-regarded Supported Living service.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing exceptional, person-centered care and support to vulnerable adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Assisting house managers in maintaining a high-quality service in the daily operation of supported living accommodations.
Offering guidance and support to less experienced Support Workers, ensuring the best outcomes for halow service users.
Enhancing the quality of life for service users, helping them retain their independence and dignity.
Main Duties
These are required and should be noted:
- Providing a quality service by working to an agreed care plan for each supported adult, maintaining records, and acting with professionalism, whilst delivering a compassionate and respectful service
- Ensuring a safe, caring, responsive, effective and well led service – compliant with Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and legislation – with halow values at the heart of everything we do.
- Ensuring consistent support of each young adult to work towards their identified personal goals. Flagging up any concerns or potential for concern that you may have relating to an adult we support to the appropriate personnel.
- Supporting the House Managers to provide a high-quality service by overseeing the day-to-day operational aspects of running a supported living house
- Liaising with care practitioners and families (where appropriate and requested to by the Care Management team).
- Leading by example and demonstrating a positive approach through role modelling to colleagues, supported adults and stakeholders alike (which can include liaising with parents, care practitioners, GPs amongst others).
- Promoting inclusion and diversity by respecting and supporting the young person’s rights in relation to their gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion or other life choice or circumstance.
Qualifications
Here are the required qualifications:
- Previous experience of care work is essential
- Resilience and adaptability are key as this role involves lone working either with an individual or a small group, as well as working as part of the wider Care team
- Some personal care and administration of medicine may be required depending on who you are supporting (Full training provided).
- Aged 18 and above
- Right to work in the UK
- Willing to undertake a DBS Check. The initial cost of the DBS application will be paid for by halow.
- Willingness to develop existing skills and experience, and to undertake further training as required.
- Proficient in the use of digital / IT systems including Microsoft Office suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and smartphone apps to ensure good record keeping and care
- A good standard of verbal and written English with an ability to communicate with people of all abilities.
- Resilient and can sustain the physical and emotional demands of the role.
- For night workers: able and confident about working alone, and able to recognise when you need to ask for support or advice, including able to clearly explain the support or advice you need from your line manager or other health and care professionals.
- Good observational skills, able to recognise physical or emotional change and/or deterioration in a client, and to make a judgement on the need to report and escalate concerns.
- Always exhibit role model behaviour including being trustworthy, honest, reliable, punctual, respectful, encouraging, empathetic, understanding and positive in all aspects of the role.
- Excellent organisational skills with ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate problem solving skills and able to cope under pressure.
- A team player who is just as capable when working alone.
- Strong people skills to support less experienced colleagues to develop their knowledge and confidence
- Willing to speak up when you see actions of others that fall below expected professional standards.
